Lesson Snapshot

1. Engage: Ask students to create a T chart of the pros/cons of school uniforms.  Then choose a side and write a paragraph over their stance on uniforms.

2. Explore: Commit and Toss activity where students read others’ arguments and examine the writing weaknesses.

3. Explain: Class discussion sharing weaknesses in persuasive writing then students create a Top Ten list of weaknesses seen in the class.  Teacher leads discussion on ways to address these weaknesses

4. Extend/Expand: Students receive their paragraph back and list which of the Top Ten weaknesses were pointed out in their paragraph.

5. Evaluate: Students take home their paragraph and type up a revision. The revision will be graded by the teacher and each student receives verbal feedback in a quick writing conference.
