Lesson Snapshot

1. Engage: Students will watch a YouTube video: “The Rappin’ Mathematician: ‘The Number Line Dance’”               

2. Explore: Students will use positive and negative cards to help them visualize the relationship between positive and negative numbers. Students will use a game from The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives.                 

3. Explain: Students will create a poster demonstrating their understanding.

4. Extend/Expand: Students will create a real world situation in which positive and negative numbers are used. Students will create a song/skit to demonstrate their situation and solution.                 

5. Evaluate: Student evaluations will be based on the provided rubric.
