Lesson Snapshot

1. Engage:  Students will watch a population video and answer the question: what are the top 5 most populous countries?

2. Explore:  Students will be asked to look for pros and cons by investigating information presented in 5 folders and by watching a short video.

3. Explain:  Students will explain pros and cons to each other after investigating each folder and summarize their findings as a group.

4. Extend/Expand:  Students will develop a billboard and a one-minute public service announcement for or against China’s one-child policy.

5. Evaluate:  Students will watch a video of population growth.  Students will interpret how population and resource availability are related using the information from the video and a State of the World graph.  Students prepare elevator speeches describing the impacts of national policies on demographics and resource availability.
