Lesson Snapshot

1. Engage:  Students will examine a picture of the flag with money and grades and discuss symbolism and meaning.          

2. Explore:  In groups, students will read 2 speeches and fill out the he said/ she said/ I say chart. 

3. Explain:  Students will explain what happened in regards to segregation over the 100 years between speeches and where we are today in regards to integration.

4. Extend/Expand: Students will use current readings, charts, and graphs to write a “Two Score and Ten Years” speech on segregation in America.

5. Evaluate:  Students will be peer evaluated with a rubric as they deliver their individual speeches.
