Lesson Snapshot

1. Engage: Students will use square manipulatives to create a Fibonacci spiral pattern in the shape of a rectangle.

2. Explore: Using the rectangle they created during the Engage portion of the lesson, students will begin to connect repeated addition pattern in creating Fibonacci numbers.

3. Explain: Students will work with partners to create a Fibonacci number sequence using the repeating number patterns. Partners will form a small group comparing the sequence each partnership created.

4. Extend/Expand: Students will measure and fold a piece of paper in the Fibonacci pattern to create a book which contains a poem that is written using the Fibonacci pattern in line syllables.

5. Evaluate: The student’s poem and book will be shared and evaluated by a rubric.
