Surface Area, Volume, Exponents, Square & Cubed Roots, and Equations
This math lesson has the potential to create a rich learning experience for students from 6th grade through Geometry and can be modified to easily address quadratic and cubic equations in Algebra 2. Students build a 5″ x 5″ x 5″ cube and explore its properties and reason their way through the development of two distinct cubes that represent “half” of the size of the original cube. Ideas about Surface Area and Volume and reinforced as students build their own equations and explore exponents and square/cube roots.
